Madhya Pradesh will go to polls on November 28 With only three days of campaigning in Madhya Pradesh’s electoral battle left, candidates’ family members have also landed themselves in the campaigning battlefield.

Nowadays, wives and NRI daughters and sons of candidates are also seeking votes for their loved ones.

In the Narela assembly seat of Bhopal, Roma Sarang is going from door-to-door campaigning for her husband Vishwas Sarang who is contesting again on a BJP ticket.

To ensure her husband’s victory, Roma has been touching elderly people’s feet and embracing young girls at every house.

“People of Narela consider me their daughter and when my husband is busy at public rallies on one side, I have been going from door-to-door campaigning for him,” Roma told India Today. Narela is one of the biggest residential populations of the 1984 gas tragedy victims in Bhopal.

Even daughters and sons living abroad are doing the rounds from dawn to dusk seeking votes for their parents. The daughter of Umashankar Gupta, who is Revenue Minister in Shivraj government and a candidate from Bhopal South-West assembly seat, has come all the way from the United States to campaign for her father.

Eeti Gupta, who settled down in US after her marriage, is now campaigning for her father in Bhopal. Another NRI in Shivpuri is helping his mother on the last leg of her campaign.

His mother is Yashodhara Raje Scindia, a minister in the Shivraj government and candidate from Shivpuri. Yashodhara’s son Akshay, who has come from New York, is campaigning these days in rural and slum areas of her mother’s constituency Shivpuri.

This is not the first time that Akshay has come to help out with his mother’s campaign. He did it during the previous assembly poll in 2013 when his mother defeated Birendra Raghuvanshi from Congress.
